Creemore is a small enclave of homes along the Niagara Escarpment in Simcoe County. The old village of Creemore, now a part of Clearview Township in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada, gets its name from the Irish word Cro Mór, which means “large heart.” It is located about 20 minutes south of Collingwood and Georgian Bay, 130 kilometres (81 miles) north of Toronto, and 40 kilometres (40 mi) west of Barrie. It is located on the Niagara Escarpment’s eastern edge. The tiniest jail in North America is allegedly located in Creemore. Tweed and Coboconk make comparable claims about their prisons.
The town of Creemore was first settled in 1842, and by the turn of the century it had grown to a prosperous village of roughly 800 residents and a booming business district.
