Wasaga Beach Provincial Park – Beach Area 1

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park – Beach Area 1

Wasaga Beach is not just the world’s longest freshwater beach, with 14 kilometres of safe, sandy beach, but the sunsets are also spectacular. Wasaga Beach is Canada’s first provincial park to get the worldwide “Blue Flag” recognition for environmental stewardship. Visit www.BlueFlag.ca for additional details. This 6.8-hectare natural park protects wildlife habitat and nesting shorebirds, including the endangered Piping Plover.

The Wasaga Beach Welcome Centre opened in 2012 to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and to highlight the area’s natural and cultural treasures. The Nancy Island Historic Site, which includes a museum, theatre, and a reproduction of a Great Lakes lighthouse, is accessible through the Welcome Centre. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is the province’s busiest provincial park, with over 1.5 million visits each year! Wasaga is the world’s longest freshwater beach, with 14 kilometres of immaculate sand, making it a popular summer destination. This also means that Wasaga Beach Park may get very crowded, and it frequently fills up on hot summer days. We’re also dealing with high water levels, which are prohibiting beachside access over the entire 14-kilometer stretch.

The park is one of a kind in the provincial park system because it is the only one that is completely integrated into a community. For tourists, this can be perplexing.Georgian Bay’s asaga Beach Provincial Park is a 14-kilometer freshwater beach. For ease of access, it is separated into eight beach areas. Beach Areas 1-6 are accessible via Mosley Street, Wasaga’s major thoroughfare. Allenwood and New Wasaga Beaches are located off River Road East, north of the Nottawasaga River’s mouth. Parking, sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking are all available at all Beach Areas.
Playgrounds, cycling routes, and boardwalks are also available in some localities. The park maps can be found here for further information. We actively manage Wasaga Beach to remove muck, invasive species, and other debris while still preserving natural plants. Why not pay a visit to Nancy Island Historic Site (located on Mosley Street) to see the remnants of the British schooner H.M.S. Nancy and to see a fascinating museum, theatre, lighthouse, and gift shop while you’re here? On Nancy Island, there is also tourist information. If you and your family want to explore some of the park’s more natural regions, stop by the Wasaga Nordic & Trail Centre, which is located just off Blueberry Trail at the start of an extensive network of trails. Both winter and summer, the trails are open. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is only open for day use and does not allow overnight camping; however, there are numerous private campgrounds nearby. To the west, Craigleith Provincial Park is the closest provincial campground, and to the east, Awenda Provincial Park is the closest provincial campground.
